Taiwan's Technology R&D Competitiveness

With the aim to pioneer technology development and to break through the bottleneck of industry growth, the Department of Industrial Technology (DolT) has devised corresponding industry technology policies. At the same time, the DolT pools the R&D capabilities of the industry, academia, and research institutes through the TDPs, so as to elevate the technological level of Taiwan’s industry. After decades of the Technology Development Programs (TDP) development, Taiwan has accumulated considerable technology innovation capabilities while consolidating its competitiveness in the global arena.

1.Objectives and Benefits

With a view to implementing President Ma’s policies of “launching a new era of cross-strait economic and trade negotiation” and “promoting Taiwan’s interests and advancing global connections,” the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ “Bridges Building Project (BBP)” was approved by the Executive Yuan in August 2008. The goal of the project is to set up exchange platforms for each industry and to hold a series of cross-strait conferences on exchanges in individual industries as a way of building bridges between the two sides.

Multinational Innovative R&D center in Taiwan

"The Program of Multinational Innovative R&D center in Taiwan" is an important element in the International Innovation and R&D Base Plan, which forms part of the National Development Plan. The aim is to get multinational corporations collaborating with local Taiwanese firms so that Taiwan can establish itself as a regional R&D center within the Asia Pacific region. This in turn will help to support multinational production activities, thereby enhancing the role which Taiwan plays in global R&D, giving the R&D activity of Taiwanese industry greater depth and encouraging Taiwanese companies to focus on cutting-edge research.

We hope that via these conferences on cross-strait industrial exchange and cooperation, both sides can establish an effective mode of collaboration and create a more open and friendlier environment conducive to industrial development. This will open up new business opportunities and strengthen links with international corporations. In this way, enterprises can compete in international markets and make worldwide deployments. This will create a win-win situation for both Taiwanese and Chinese industries.
